Shimmy is one of the dearest and sweetest jennets we own. We purchased her sight unseen and have loved her from the minute we first saw her get off the transport truck. Her demure stature and her stocky body type are rare. When we decided to breed her we made sure that we used our smallest jack, Pepper, to be the one to service this little jennet. Now we know it was definitely the RIGHT choice.

As always we were waiting with baited breath for Shimmy to have her very first foal. Being such a tiny little jennet, we were on constant vigil for any of the first signs of labor. It was a good thing we did and we were with her the instant she went into labor. As you may have seen, if watching Mare Stare, Shimmy had a “red bag” delivery. That is something a breeder always dreads to see or hear for that matter, but with quick action by Joe, he was able to quickly cut open the bag and get this precious little boy out.

Since the date was 10/4/10, my friend, Dena, suggested naming him Ten-Four and calling him Roger. We did exactly that except we lengthened his barn name to Roger That instead of just Roger….it fits him perfectly to this day. Roger is the smallest foal we have ever had at Half Ass Acres. He weighed 15 ½ pounds and stood only 17 ½ inches tall (short). He was like holding a tiny stuffed doll and he immediately owned our hearts. We did not let him out of the barn for several days since he was so small. Shimmy was such a fantastic first time mother and really wanted to keep him all to herself right after she gave birth to him. I can understand why……”I still want to keep him all to myself.”

Roger’s risky birth situation did not have one bad effect on him. He is as normal as “apple pie” and JUST AS SWEET! There are no written or spoken words to describe him to you. It takes seeing him in person to appreciate his “cute factor”.

We Praise the Lord for sending him to us, for Joe’s quick response to his birthing needs, and simply for the Miracle of Birth at Half Ass Acres. Please call to set an appointment to visit our tiny little treasure. You will definitely agree he’s exceptional.

Below is a link to an instructional video taken of a red bag delivery. It gives a great visual of what it looks like and how to handle the situation.

Permission was given by owner to post. Their filly is doing great.

Update! 6/3/11: Roger was gelded by our vet, Dr. Greg Harris. He is now our ambassador/mascot donkey for Half Ass Acres. Even though Roger is the smallest donkey on our farm we made the decision to geld him as he 'toes out' on his front legs slightly and we did not want to perpetuate that conformational fault into the gene pool of miniature donkeys.  We have turned down thousands of dollars for little Roger. Roger is here to stay!! I have had more fun with Roger than I have with any other donkey in my life. The only way Roger would ever be sold is if someone was rich enough to pay off our farm, the extra acres we bought next door, our new trailer and my new indoor arena I am going to have finished soon. Otherwise Roger will live out his life at Half Ass Acres and you can then just try to pry him out of my dead hands. When Roger goes...I go!!

2011 Tennessee Donkey ASSociation's High Point Ambassador!Roger was the 2011 Tennessee Donkey ASSociation's Champion High Point Ambassador Donkey. He tied for this award with his own personal donkey, Soldier, and his stablemate, Lightfoot Lee, owned by Dena Wilson.

Reserve Champion High Point Ambassador Donkey for Tennessee! We were not even trying to win an award in 2012 but Roger was named the Reserve Champion High Point Ambassador Donkey for Tennessee at the end of the year. We were so thrilled that Roger won this award by just doing what he loves to do...entertaining people with his adorable cuteness!

Ferrari was purchased as a sterile jack but we had to try to see for ourselves if that was true. We tried several times to bred him to several jennets but he was unsuccesful in settling them in foal. So we gelded Ferrari and he is now Roger's best forever friend. We will be taking photos and videos very soon. We intend to teach Ferrari how to team drive with Roger so that they can attend parades with me driving.  Just one of them is much to small to pull my weight by themselves. At my age I need to ride in parades instead of walking now.

Click MDR sign for Miniature Donkey Registry Pedigree Mookie's pedigree!

Mookie was the 2015 & 2016 High Point Youth Donkey in Tennessee for his exhibitor, Katie Randall.

Mookie has had very limited showing in NMDA shows but he still earned enough points for his 'Excellence In-Hand' in 2018 after the Tennessee State Fair NMDA show and he is now well on his way to earning his 'Excellence In Halter and Driving' too. He was shown by a youth at the 2018 Music City NMDA show and they did so well that they won High Point Sub-Youth.

Mookie is a half brother to Stonegate Acres Solar Eclipse, a National High Point Perfomance Gelding and the 2005 NMDA High Point Gelding of the Year owned and shown by Kathy Loudamy at K & K Ranch in Texas and purchased by us.

Mookie has a beautiful head and is a great little driving gelding. He is a beautiful mover and can really extend his trot. He isn't like a lot of driving donkeys that just go faster instead of truly extending their trot. He was trained by Wayne Lyon at Stonegate Acres in Canada and shown very briefly in 2009 by Kathy Loudamy at K&K Ranch. He was Reserve Champion Halter Gelding at the Texas Shoot Out in Bryan, Texas in June 2009.

Our great niece, Emily, showed Mookie in youth events in 2011 & 2012.  They attended three shows for the 2011 show season and did quite well together as a team. See our show results for more details.

Mookie is a very special donkey and he will never be for sale as long as I am breathing. It took us a year and a half of showing before we bonded and now he will try just about anything I ask of him even if he is terrified. This gelding has a huge heart but not alot of courage so he has to trust his handler before he performs well. Mookie just keeps getting better and better no matter who is showing him though.

2011 Tennessee Donkey ASSocations High Point Harness Gelding and Reserve High Point Solid Color! Mookie was the 2011 Tennessee Donkey ASSociation's Champion High Point Harness Gelding and Reserve High Point Solid Color Champion in our first year of showing him!

Mookie won the following awards for 2012...our second season of showing him. We finally bonded and hit our groove. It is such a joy to get this close to your donkey. Something that does not happen overnight. In addition to all of this Mookie was the donkey my great niece, Emily Batty, showed to win 2012 Reserve High Point Junior Youth. We are so proud of you both!

Stonegate Acres Solar Eclipse, was a National High Point Perfomance Gelding in his younger years and the 2005 NMDA High Point Gelding of the Year when he was owned and shown by Kathy Loudamy at K & K Ranch in Texas. He had two very successful show seasons for his next owner, Julie Jones, at JF Ranch in Washington. He has so many awards that they are too numerous to mention and no one has kept up with them all. Solar arrived at Half Ass Acres for his forever home. Photos of Solar in performance in his video are compliments of Kathy Loudamy. Solar turns many different colors throughout the year but if he is kept out of the sun his color goes from a dark gray color to dark brown to almost black. Solar is so laid back and safe that my great niece, Emily, made him her show gelding. Solar does not get in a hurry about anything and just moseys along. This makes him ideal for a youth. Emily and Solar were a great team. Solar has a heart of gold and we completely trust him with our precious Emily.

2024 Update: Solar has had very limited showing in NMDA sanctioned shows but he has already earned 106 points for his American Donkey Assocation Excellence In-Hand and 43 points toward his excellence in harness under the capable handing of my good friend, Tracy Naves. Tracy flies or drives all the way from California to show her favorite donkey!!

Update! First show for Emily and Solar and they brought home four blues....Halter Gelding, Youth In-Hand Jumping, Youth Pleasure Driving, and Youth In-Hand Trail! Solar was 1st out of 7 donkeys in halter and 5th out of 15 in color. Emily and Solar were awesome together! Solar also won the blue in Adult In-Hand Trail, Adult In-Hand Jumping and Coon Jumping. We knew Solar was going to be the perfect youth donkey for our Emily. He took care of our precious great niece and for the first time my heart was not in my throat watching her show. Solar is a one in a million donkey. Solar has a home here forever!

Update! Emily and Solar were Reserve High Point Youth at The Tennessee State Fair September 2013! What a way to finish the 2013 Show Season! We are so proud of our great niece, Emily, and her success with her new gelding, Solar.

Update. Emily is no longer showing Solar as she is to busy with beauty pageants but Solar is here to stay. I could never replace a gelding as safe as Solar. You will have to wait for me to have a terminal illness or die before Solar will ever leave Half Ass Acres.  In the meantime we are letting a new special youth, Lilly Odette, show Solar. They showed for the first time at the 2018 Music City NMDA show after only practicing two times. They were a fantastic team and were awarded Reserve High Point Sub-Youth at the end of the show!

Solar is now being shown by my good friend, Tracy Naves. They were Reserve High Point Novice at the 2023 Music City Show.
